ABOUT

My name is Kyhan Smith. I created Sonic Tech Works in 2011 after what proved to be a life changing experience. For the 10 years prior, I had the pleasure of having the first job that I worked hard to get and truly loved as an Audio Engineering Instructor at Columbia Academy. Which at the time was one of Vancouver’s top schools for Music Production, Video Production and Broadcasting. My greatest joy was to help encourage and develop my students talent to see them grow into their careers as studio owners, sound techs and award winning engineers. This all came to a sudden end in 2010 when the school unexpectedly closed under new management. None of us saw this coming. We all loved our work so much that we even attempted to buy the school to keep it running. This attempt failed and we all lost our jobs. I didn’t know it at the time, but this experience sent me into a depression.
Having lived in various countries, experienced culture shock multiple times and achieving a national championship title for shotput and discus you learn that the only way to move is forward. Not knowing what my next move was I went to the unemployment office where they presented me with a choice. Find a job or start a business.
Over the years we have had the pleasure of providing our skills and services to a multitude of music and corporate events such as festivals and conferences in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. As with my former students, our greatest joy comes from seeing your event deliver success to you and your audience.
